Hey, Try using maybe a total of three fonts (including the title) to help the heirarchy. Use color, slightly different font face (or use a serif) and different point size for heirarchy. For an early try it looks better than some stuff I've seen in school. Cool beans!
The only thing i can see that i may have changed is the font colors. Maybe not using white for the less headline info just so its easier to see what it is that the main pull is. I think its beautiful !
Hey I'm working on a similar project so it's fun for me to see someone else doing it
I think the color composition is gorgeous. And there appears to be a clear hierarchy for your headlines.
This is definitely picking on my part, but I would just say watch your kerning in the title. I don't know if you intend for the "K" and "A" to be touching in KARMA. And there's a bit of a gap between "0" and "1" in "1001" (the second pair).
Great job! I hope you keep us updated on your typography stuff
I think that it looks great! The black and white are very nice clean colors to use and the flow of each title follows the lines around the subjects profile. It works b/c it isn't distracting from the main subject and it still legible. In the future maybe try new colors like a blue cover may look great with a certain type of green or yellow. But so far so good in my book!
One other small thing: 'Behind the scenes of a great stock photographer' shouldn't be just stripped in. It needs to be as seamless as the rest of the typography: the entire page has to work together; however that together is. Just like your other work.
Excellent! The only thing about the typography that throws me off a bit is the leading on "Free Texture Pack." Perhaps it wouldn't bother me if I was looking at it at physically instead of digitally, but it is the only set of words that have their cross bars/cap height touching the baseline of the above letters...for me, it just doesn't flow well, given the surroundings.
"A great stock photographer"... hmmm ego xD Haha but a well deserved ego, because it's really nice !
Hmm my opinion in the overal concept is that the whole concept is to get the readers attention to the face, because it is sooooo large on the paper ;o. I would've made me face somewhat smaller, or made a buste-portrait.
Very neat, tidy design. I really like it. However, I was considering maybe making the text that says "KARMA" a different color than white. It seems like it's holding the piece together, and while the smaller headline texts can be fine in black and white, the magazine title will have more weight with color.
this is sweet. i love typography. good job of using the black and white. i like the font and the various sizes. maybe try playing around with maybe two or three fonts together sometime. this looks really good though and very clean.
one of my favorite people to learn from is the work of david carson. he is pretty famous now as a designer, started out in music and surf magazines, but is a typography explorer. he is a good one to study.
